COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

20-Hour Refresher Course for Mounted Law Enforcement and Civilian Support Members, Course No. 2022-3

 

Suncoast Equine's Mounted Law Enforcement Training Programs is conducting its popular 20-Hour Refresher Course for Mounted Law Enforcement and Civilian Support Members in Ocala, Florida, May 21 & 22, 2022.  This course is intended for law enforcement officers and
members of a civilian equestrian support organization who have completed at least a 40-hour Basic Mounted Law Enforcement or Civilian Posse Training Course, (or equivalent program), and who desire refresher training.  P
articipants who attend all portions of this refresher course will receive a Certificate of Attendance.  Depending on the agency, this course is intended to satisfy in-service mounted law enforcement training requirements.

 

All instruction is supervised by graduates of the University of Louisville - Southern Police Institute's Mounted Law Enforcement Instructor Course. Participation in this course is by advance registration only.  To reserve your place in this class, it is recommend that you register early.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

 

This course is intended for sworn mounted law enforcement officers or civilians (19 years of age or older) who have completed at least a recognized 40-hour Basic Mounted Law Enforcement or Civilian Posse Training Course through their agency or organization, (or equivalent training through a reputable mounted law enforcement training program), and who desire refresher training.

Participants should already have a superior understanding of horsemanship fundamentals and possess riding skills that are above a beginner or basic level: The ability to ride a horse at a walk, trot and canter from point to point without veering off course; to stop; back and turn the horse.  The rider and horse should be able to perform basic lateral movements, i.e. turn on the haunches and forehand, side-pass and leg-yield.  Although not required, it is preferred that the horse and rider have previous experience in mounted law enforcement operations or posse functions.

We understand that agency budget restrictions and personal finances in today's economy can often interfere with training needs.  We here at Suncoast Equine believe that your safety and the safety of the public should not be compromised simply because of financial limitations.  Through good fiscal management and eliminating unnecessary overhead, Suncoast Equine is able to provide affordable, professional mounted police training without compromising the quality of that training.  Contact Suncoast Equine for tuition pricing and payment arrangements.

Advanced payment in full or a government purchase order will reserve your place in the class.


Note:  The tuition includes all instruction, stall rental and one catered lunch.  Students are responsible for obtaining their own personal accommodations.

HORSES

 

We recommend that the horse you bring to the training, gaited or non-gaited, be the same horse you will be working with for mounted duties.  All horses arriving for the course must be accompanied by proof of a current negative Coggins test.  If your horse is travelling from out of State, you will also be required to obtain and present a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.  Suncoast Equine reserves the right to turn away any horse that is not accompanied by the above require documents, appears to be unhealthy, or that may be considered dangerous or destructive.  Participants are responsible for the daily care of their horses.

PERSONAL ACCOMMODATIONS & STABLING

 

Participants are responsible for obtaining their own lodging accommodations.  Stalls are available at the Southeast Livestock Pavilion.  The tuition includes the rental of one stall.  If additional stalls are needed, $15/day charge will be added to your tuition.  

 

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

 

Unless for reasons described herein, refunds for payments made in advance may not be issued after May 19, 2022 except for extenuating circumstances considered on a case-by-case basis.  In the event the class would need to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, tuition fees and/or deposits will be refunded.
